About me

Whether it's standing up for our economy and our country in the face of threats, fighting climate change, implementing stronger gun control or more support for families, I am fighting for the priorities of my constituents as the Member of Parliament for Outremont and Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, I have worked hard to support our entrepreneurs across Canada. I regularly exchange with them not only to present the assistance that the government is putting in place, but also to take note of their comments, based on their realities on the ground, in order to fine-tune and adapt programs to the needs of small businesses.

I was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Outremont in February 2019 during a by-election, and reelected twice since. I was appointed Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship by Prime Minister Mark Carney in March 2025.

For nearly 10 years, I was an international litigation and arbitration lawyer at Norton Rose Fulbright, specializing in international commercial law. While practicing law, I also taught at the Faculty of Law of the Université de Montréal. As a mother of a young daughter and very involved in my community, I maintain close ties with the families I represent in Outremont, Côte-des-Neiges and the Mile End.
